CARING FOR YOUR JEWELRY
Caring for your handmade jewelry is easy. Use a mild soap and warm water for cleaning, rinse well, pat dry with a soft cloth, and then lightly polish with a jewelry polishing cloth, such as a sunshine cloth or selvyt cloth. There are however many other methods for cleaning jewelry; but this is what I recommend. Proper care for your jewelry will keep it looking new and will help it last a lifetime.
Fine jewelry should not be worn during strenuous activities of any kind, such as gardening, exercising, cleaning or household repairs.
Prevent your jewelry from coming in contact with harsh chemicals found in swimming pools and hot tubs. These chemicals are very damaging to most stones, metals, silver, and even solid gold. Keep jewelry away from extreme temperatures, and intense sunlight, which can cause some gemstones to fade.
I do not recommended placing jewelry in chemical cleaners as it may destroy some stones. Here are a few stones that CANNOT be placed in chemicals; Amber, Aquamarine, Coral, Jade, Lapis Lazuli, Malachite, Opal, Pearls, Shell, and Turquoise. If in doubt, don?t do it!
Apply makeup and hairspray and let dry before putting on your jewelry. Some makeup and sprays can contain chemicals that may affect your jewelry.
Store your jewelry in the reusable bag which your jewelry was originally received. Keep the anti-tarnish paper in the bag, as it will help to prevent tarnishing. This bag is good for most all stones including pearls and opals as it allows them to breathe.
